The Resilience Scale: A Tool for change

Resilience is the ability to adapt and remain healthy in the face of adversity and can be strengthened or weakened over time in response to our experiences. The Resilience Scale tool developed by the Palix Foundation (Alberta Family Wellness Initiative) helps to illustrate how three factors interact to determine resilience: adversities, positive supports, and acquired skills and abilities.

This 90-minute training video, presented by Teresa Killam, MEd MD CCFP FCFP, reviews the key metaphors of the Brain Story with a focus on how the Resilience Scale metaphor can be used as a practical tool to assess and monitor resilience in individuals.

The training has been made available in the following three formats:

for physicians

The Resilience Scale: A Clinical Tool for Physicians

This training, along with completion of a simulation activity, gives physicians the opportunity to practice using the Resilience Scale as a clinical tool. It has been approved for Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits (for a maximum of 2 hours) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC).
